Encouraging Words about Letting God Guide

Dear Paula,

I recently purchased your book, Weight of Grace, from CLM where I took classes to become a Biblical Counselor.  I was having some issues in that area and Marci thought that I might gain some insight from your book.  One of the things that stands out most to me is your transparency, how you describe your struggles, emotions, and conflicts with food and that openness sets the stage to non-judgmentalism.  Although my struggle with food is not like yours, the big issue for me, (no pun intended), was why I stayed 80-100 pounds overweight for 25 years.  One of the things you wrote brought revelation, repentance, and then healing was your words from page 69:

‘The best thing to do about underlying beliefs is to discuss them with God and ask Him to reveal to you what’s “off” in your thinking and what the truth is according to His Word.  …Self-sufficiency is not a virtue.’

God revealed to me what was going on in my thinking and the legalism that I put myself under.  Your probing questions and thoughts helped me to go deeper into what was going on in my soul even after I had lost a significant amount of weight by my Father’s grace and His gift to me, as He took over my appetite and my food desires.

I want to tell you that you are right when you say that our Father will guide and direct our eating, and that a diet plan is not necessary.  Surrendering ourselves to Him is the key and walking in that Love and Grace.  It is to Him that I give praise and glory to that I have lost 66 lbs so far and I walk with Him every day on this journey that He started and continues day by day. “If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36

Be encouraged, you are speaking the Truth.

Sincerely,
Julie
